“It’s To Die For”

Mark 6:17-18 For it was Herod who had sent and seized John and bound him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, because he had married her. For John had been saying to Herod, ‘It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.'” (ESV)

So often these days truth has become whatever we want to hear. What is right has become relative to each individual, as suits his or her personal beliefs and feelings.

But God has given us His Truth in His Word. His commandments  are His gift to us to guide and protect what really matters in our lives – our relationships with Him and with one another. But how are we to speak and hear God’s Truth  in a world that no longer wants to hear it? -with humility and with love, trusting fully in God and living into His grace.

As members of one another in the body of Christ, the Church, we are called to be held accountable and to hold one another accountable to God’s Truth. This discipline can be difficult and painful, even very costly at times. It was certainly costly for John the Baptist. But because we belong to Christ, He gives us courage to stand up for what is right in God’s eyes, and speak and hear His Truth in love.
